Landscape

The Swedish province Värmland is located around and north of the big lake Vänern on the same level as Oslo and Stockholm. Characteristic for central and northern Värmland are dislocation valleys running straight in north-south direction. In these valleys, the soil is fertile and often there are long and deep lakes. The valleys are separated by long hills, rounded during the ice age, covered by forests, moorland and many small lakes.

The hamlet Getmossen lies between the small towns Kil and Sunne in the Fryken valley and forms an "island" in the forest, open towards the west. Getmossen has kept its small scale character of houses and landscape from about 100 years ago. At that time, there existed four farms and a large number of cottages (torpställen). Therefore, Getmossen is now a cultural heritage area.
The small road ends here, there is hardly any traffic and children can simply be "let free". In the forest there are berries, and many wild animals such as roe-deer, fox, beaver, elk and lynx. There are paths for walks, in winter for skiing, there are lakes and picnic places where you can be quite sure goblins and trolls live under stones and roots.
